Nothing Phone (2)’s first update brings many camera improvements

The Nothing Phone (2) has been finally unveiled earlier this week, and it’s only expected to go on sale online on Monday. Before that, some people have been able to purchase one at various pop-up stores across the globe. These people will be happy to know that the phone has today received its first ever software update. For those ordering the phone online, this will be waiting once they unbox it.

The update seems rather substantial, going by its changelog. You can expect to see quite a few camera-related improvements, such as Portrait mode supporting 2x zoom, Motion capture supported in 50 MP mode, optimized HDR effectiveness “across the board”, better photo clarity at zoom rates between 4x and 10x, improved camera quality in third party apps, and reduced lag when shooting videos, which get a better stabilization algorithm too.

Aside from that, this update also delivers improvements in battery and charging performance in extreme conditions, better wireless charging and Battery Share consistency, as well as improved face unlocking and fingerprint sensor performance.

Bugs relating to Quick Settings expansion and NFC were fixed, as were general, unnamed ones, and network stability should be better too. Glyph Composer is now available in the Play Store, allowing you to create and record your own Glyph Ringtones.

You can check the progress of an incoming Uber ride via Glyphs, and add widgets to your lock screen and Always-on-Display. Finally, you get four new wallpapers, a one-handed mode, reworked Nothing Machine ringtones and notification sounds from Phone (1), and the ability to add your most used Quick Settings tiles directly to your home or lock screens. The update arrives over-the-air as a 105 MB download.
