Samsung’s new SmartTag passes through the FCC, here’s a glimpse of it

Samsung’s AirTag competitor came out in 2021, and it’s high time for a replacement. We’ve already heard that a new Samsung Galaxy SmartTag is coming later this year, and earlier this month it received its Bluetooth certification.

Now it’s moved even further along in the certification game, having passes through the FCC, which gave its go-ahead for the launch, that might take place in the next few weeks. Thankfully, the FCC certification came with an image showing the tag. Here it is for your viewing pleasure.

As you can see, it’s still branded Galaxy SmartTag, but the official name could be something like Galaxy SmartTag 2. The model number is EI-T5600. The accessory was initially rumored to land at Samsung Unpacked last week, but didn’t end up getting announced there, perhaps because that event was already packed (excuse the pun) with other devices – the Korean company unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold5, the Galaxy Z Flip5, the Galaxy Watch6 family, as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series.

The new SmartTag is less square and more oval-shaped than its predecessor, and it features a much bigger hole for keyrings – supposedly so you can more easily attach it directly to one. The new tracker has both Bluetooth LE on board as well as UWB connectivity. The original SmartTag lacked UWB, but the SmartTag+ rectified that. This time around, it looks like there will be only one model.
