Lady in the Lake, written by New York Times best-selling author Laura Lippman, has been adapted for the screen.
Starring Natalie Portman (Black Swan, Thor) and Moses Ingram (Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Queen’s Gambit), Lady in the Lake is set in 1960s Baltimore and centers around two unsolved murders. Portman plays Maddie Schwartz, a pampered housewife who leaves her life of luxury to become an investigative journalist at the local newspaper. She begins looking into the death of Ingram’s character, Cleo Sherwood and finds herself entangled in the mystery. Apple TV+ dropped the first two episodes of the mini-series today, Friday, July 19.
Portman talked to ET at the Lady in the Lake premiere event and spoke about her experience filming the series.
“She’s so in a tunnel of her own needs that it’s like she’s blind to everything else around her,” Portman said about her character. “It was wild to inhabit her intensity.”
“It had two such incredible female roles, both women looking for their freedom in this incredible world of the 1960s in Baltimore, beautifully realized by all of our designers,” she said. “[Series creator] Alma Har’el is just someone I admire so much. Her heart and her talent exceeded any expectations I had of her.”
