It’s about to be a Supergoop! summer. The viral sunscreen company has experienced Supergrowth in the last few years, soaring to the number-one spot for skincare products at Sephora. Supergoop! has raked in a ton of press and awards, and won over thousands of TikTokers and beauty bloggers (these beauty bloggers included).
For the uninitiated, here’s a bit of backstory: Supergoop! was founded by Holly Thaggard, a former third-grade teacher based in San Antonio, Texas, on a mission to get people to wear more sunscreen. She started perfecting her first formula: the Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen, in the early aughts. From there, Thaggard would go on to introduce new formulas for different skin types, including the Glowscreen SPF 40 (our personal fav), Every. Single. Face. Watery Lotion and the Supergoop! PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 50.
Constantly rolling out new top-notch, cruelty-free sunscreens for new skin concerns, Supergoop! is just so darn likable. Although the product have a lot going for it, there are two flaws we need to point out. First, the brand is frequently sold out on Sephora, and second, its products tend to be on the pricier side. To supplement our Supergoop stock, we’ve found a few alternative options that are similarly luminous and protective (and often much cheaper). Check out our selection of the six best Supergoop! dupes that we love just as much as the originals.
Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40

Trader Joe’s is famous for its top-notch dupes of high-end brands. Remember it’s Marula Facial Oil (a dupe for Drunk Elephant’s Marula Oil) or Brazil Nut Body Butter (a dupe for Sol de Janeiro’s Bum Bum Cream)?
In 2022, TJ’s is tried its hand at duping Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen — and didn’t disappoint. Like the original, Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen soaks into the skin without leaving it shiny, all the while offering SPF 40-level protection. With a texture similar to makeup primer, it’s perfect for wearing under makeup.

Mineral Fusion Brush-On Powder Sunscreen for Face, SPF 30

Gone are the days we had to ruin our makeup with globs of goopy liquid sunscreen to protect our skin from UV rays. Today, sunscreen comes in powder — that’s right, powder — that can be brushed on over makeup. Supergoop’s groundbreaking (Re)setting 100% Mineral Powder SPF 35 led the trend, paving the way for some pretty solid dupes. We’re partial to the Mineral Fusion version, a translucent, light-reflecting powder that absorbs oil and sets makeup while protecting your skin with SPF 30. And it has a built-in brush applicator? Chef’s kiss.

Maybelline Dream Fresh Skin Hydrating BB Cream

Skin tints like the Supergoop! Protec(tint) SPF Tint work on so many levels: As a daily sunscreen, a makeup base, or in place of tinted moisturizer or foundation. But Supergoop! isn’t the only beauty brand with its hat in the tinted sunscreen game. We also love the Maybelline Dream Fresh Skin Hydrating BB cream, which — like the Supergoop version — layers well without feeling heavy or sticky. The formula is lightweight, lasting and delivers that coveted dewy glow.

e.l.f. SKIN Suntouchable Invisible SPF 35

Like Trader Joe’s, e.l.f. is known for its affordable, quality dupes of luxury products. The cosmetics brand has done it again: It’s Suntouchable! Whoa Glow SPF 35 not only looks like the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen, but it comes with comparable benefits at a fraction of the price. Like the original, the lightweight gel sunscreen doubles as a makeup primer, is cruelty-free and vegan to boot.

Sun Bum Daily SPF 50 Clear Gel Face Sunscreen

Sun Bum is another suncare brand beloved by RetailMeNot beauty writers. The company released its own version of Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen — Sun Bum Daily SPF 50 Clear Gel Face Sunscreen — that packs in all the protection at less than half the price. Like the original, Sum Bum Daily is clear, weightless and oil-free, absorbing easily onto the skin and leaving it silky smooth.

Burt’s Bees SPF 30 Lip Balm

When it comes to sun protection, the lips often get glossed over. (No pun intended.) But our lips are thin and particularly sensitive, and failing to protect them could lead to chapping, sunburns and long-term damage. That’s where SPF lip balms like the Supergoop! Lipscreen Shine SPF 40 come into play.
Looking for an affordable alternative? Try Burt’s Bees SPF lip balm, which comes in a pack of three yummy flavors — Coco Loco, Beaches and Cream and Tropic Like It’s Hot — and is formulated from almond oil, vitamin E and shea butter.
