Runes are considered the secret language of God Odin in Norse mythology. According to these ancient stories, Odin, known as the “Father of the Runes,” acquired this knowledge through a significant personal sacrifice. He speared himself to Yggdrasil, the cosmic world tree, and remained suspended for nine windy nights. During this time, he uncovered the mysteries of the runes and later shared them with his people. The word “rune” comes from Old Norse and means “Secret knowledge and wisdom”. The true age and origin of the runes are still shrouded in mystery.
