If you’re a coffee addict like me, chances are you’re spending hundreds, if not thousands of hard-earned dollars at coffee shops each year. In fact, a 2024 U.S. survey showed that more than half of Americans spend at least $40 a month (or more, in my case) on coffee out, which is no small sum ($480 per year, to be exact).
Like most people on a budget, I tried many, many years of making my own coffee at home, but it never quite hit the spot the way that the latte at my local coffee shop did. That is, until I tried the Nespresso VertuoPlus coffee maker by Breville. Fast forward three years later and it’s hands down the most-used appliance on my kitchen counter, and something I can truly no longer live without.

Why the Nespresso VertuoPlus by Breville Is the Best Coffee Maker I’ve Ever Owned
Unmatched convenience
Prior to getting the Nespresso VertuoPlus, my family and I did have two coffee machines: One traditional coffee machine to make big-batch brews during the week, and another Chemex for those slow weekend mornings. Although the aforementioned coffee makers served us well, they couldn’t beat the ease that the Nespresso offered.
Being able to press a single button to get a perfectly brewed, steaming cup of coffee or espresso in minutes has proven to be incredibly convenient for me, my family, as well as house guests (gone are the days of having to measure out coffee!).
Versatility
The DeLonghi Nespresso VertuoNext can brew an espresso, double espresso, as well as five- and eight-ounce cups of coffee. As for the pods, there are lots of flavors to choose from.
My favorites are the Golden Caramel, Melozio, Bianco Piccolo for lattes, and the brand’s iced coffee blends. They also offer sleeves of decaf or half-caf pods, perfect for those days when you want the flavor of coffee without the jolt of caffeine.
The Pods Are Easy To Order and Reasonably Priced
While some may find it inconvenient (and expensive) to order separate pods, Nespresso actually makes it pretty easy for coffee drinkers to stock up. I order pods via the Nespresso app on my phone, and the experience so far has been seamless. You can set up recurring orders so you never run out, or mix and match flavors each time, like I do. Oftentimes, if you spend above a certain amount you also get sent some trial pods which is a great way to try out new flavors you may not have normally ordered.
I usually order about two months worth of pods at a time and spend approximately $80, which is significantly less than my partner and I would spend buying coffee out once or twice a day.
Order my coffee maker from Target and you’ll also get a complimentary starter pack of pods, so you can figure out what flavors you like before you buy.
Overall, if you’re looking for a pod coffee machine that delivers delicious coffee quickly, the Nespresso VertuoPlus by Breville (and its pods) are worth the splurge. Now that I’m living on the other side of life with Nespresso, I’m definitely never going back.
