Target has recently added more than 18,000 drive-up parking spots and tripled the number of store fulfillment roles to better support customers. All new store team members are being backup trained in same-day fulfillment.

What is Target Drive Up?
Target Drive Up is Target’s free curbside pickup service. It gives customers the option to place their Target order and then, using the Target app, they can choose to have your order delivered curbside in one of the designated parking spots. You can just stay in your car and let a Target employee bring what you ordered out to your car. They’ll even put it in your car for you. This includes anything from groceries to electronics to clothing. Anything not eligible for curbside pickup will be in indicated in the app.
Keep in mind that the Target Drive Up curbside pickup service is only accessible using the Target app. If you used the Target website to place your order, you can use the app the switch the order from Pickup to Drive Up when your order is ready.
How Much Does Target Curbside Pickup Cost?
Target Drive Up is a free curbside pickup service, and no minimum charge to use the service. There is no curbside pickup charge for any product that is eligible for the service in the app. They will come out and load your car with a $1 order or and $100 order. And, the prices are the same as if you had shopped in-store yourself.
While there is no charge for the service, if you are happy with your service you can tip your Target Shopper. You can rate and tip your Target Shopper from your account on Target.com or from within the app. The Shopper receives 100% of their tips. You can always tip the Shopper in cash when they load up your car.
What are Target Curbside Pickup Hours?
Target Drive Up hours are the same as store hours (7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for many locations). The store must be open for you to be able to pick up your order curbside. However, that doesn’t mean you’ll get to pick up your Drive Up order if you place it online at 9:59 p.m. It generally takes Target about two hours (and up to six hours) to fulfill your order.
Not sure if it’s too late to order with Target Drive Up? Check out the timing in your cart before you place your order. As you’re shopping, the ready time will be listed for each product as you’re shopping, so you’ll know if it will take longer. And make sure you’ve enabled push notifications via your Target app, so you’ll receive an alert when your order is ready.
How Target Curbside Pickup Works
Target Drive Up is a free curbside pickup service. There is no minimum order charge you have to reach and no hidden fees. You’re paying the same price you would if you shopped in the store. Drive Up does require using the Target app. You can use Target.com or the Target app to place your order, but you’ll need to switch to the app to choose the Drive Up curbside pickup service for any new or existing orders you have that are eligible for the service.
Follow these steps to place an order for Target curbside pickup:
Step 1: Create Your Order on Target.com or with the Target App
To use Target Drive Up, download the Target app if it’s not already on your phone. (It’s available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store). You’ll use the app to order eligible items like groceries, pantry items, school supplies, gifts and more.
Please note, however, that some items won’t be available if they’re in limited supply or the store doesn’t have them in stock. Also, if items contain hazardous materials, they may be ineligible for curbside pickup.
Step 2: Choose Pickup and Start Shopping
When ordering Target curbside pickup, select “Pickup” from the menu and then start shopping. In the Target app, when you add an item to your card, you’ll have the option to choose between “Order Pickup” and “Drive Up.”
Step 3: Check Out
Check out via the Target app and then pay for your order. Your method of payment will be charged when your order is “ready for pickup.” Keep in mind that you can’t set a time to pickup your order. Rather, your order will be ready in about two hours unless noted otherwise. This is important when you’re ordering groceries as you want to make sure you’ll be available to pickup your order when it is ready.
Step 4: Wait for Your Order to Be Ready
You’ll be alerted when your items will be available to retrieve, usually within two hours of placing the order. An email and a push notification in the app will send you an official confirmation with an estimate of when it’ll be ready to be picked up. The beauty of this is you’re not assigned a specific time to pick it up, nor do you have to indicate when you’ll stop by the store. You won’t need to schedule a specific arrival time — whether you stop by during your lunch hour from work or pop in after picking up your kids from school.

Step 5: Pickup Your Order
When you are notified that your order is ready, select “I’m on my way” in the app and proceed to a parking spot in the marked Drive Up spots at Target. If your order doesn’t include any perishable items, you’ll have three days to pick it up. But if you ordered perishable food, the time frame for pickup is by the end of the following day. (Target will cancel the order and process a refund if you can’t pick it up.)
Target curbside pickup hours are during normal store hours, so your time window to pick up your order is essentially whenever their doors are open — usually, that’s 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., but it may vary.
Step 6: Let Target Know You’ve Arrived
Upon arrival to a designated spot, get back into the app and select “I’m here” with the parking spot number. A Target employee will bring your order to your vehicle. Confirm the order by showing the barcode in the app. Or you can present one of the following forms of current valid ID: government-issued photo ID, state-issued driver’s license, state-issued ID card, U.S. passport, military ID, certificate of citizenship, certificate of naturalization, permanent resident, green card or a Native American travel photo ID.
Ideally, an employee will immediately bring your Target pickup order out, but there may be delays, so plan accordingly. For instance, driving up to the designated spot on a Tuesday evening would probably equate to significantly less waiting time compared to a busy Saturday morning.
Can You Modify or Cancel a Target Drive Up Order?

Can I Add Something to My Target Drive Up Order?
You know the feeling after you’ve checked out and gotten your order confirmation, only to realize you forgot to order an item or want remove an item? You can easily order more items after placing your order in the app to pick up everything all at once. After you receive the notification that your order is ready, it may be best to simply create a separate order and then pick up both orders at the same time.
Can I Remove Something From My Target Drive Up Order?
If you no longer need the items, you can attempt to cancel the order or cancel an item and place another order. Target grocery pickup and Target in-store pickup can be canceled on the app by selecting purchases in the account/name tab. Other options include canceling at Guest Services in your pickup store or not picking up the order within the pickup window.
Can I Switch My Drive Up Order to In-Store Pickup?
Yes, you can switch your Drive Up order to Order Pickup, which means you’ll go into the store to get your items at Guest Services.
Why Did Target Cancel My Order?
Target will email you to let you know as soon as possible if there is an issue with your order. The store may cancel items from your Target Pickup order:
- If they are out of stock or unavailable during Target curbside pickup hours.
- If there are payment issues or the hold window expires. You’ll receive an email from Target indicating this notification.
- Your item may have been canceled due to payment issues, such as an expired credit card or the hold window expiring.
- If it’s unavailable at that store. You can purchase it if it’s in stock at another store or have it shipped to you for free on eligible items.
How To Make a Return With Target Drive Up
Target started rolling out its new curbside returns option in 2023. Check your Target app for items you bought that are eligible for returns. If Target has rolled out curbside returns at your nearest store, you’ll see “Drive Up return” as an option. Select that option and follow the instructions. Target curbside returns function just like Target curbside pickup, but in reverse: You’ll check in with the app, park, wait in your car and then hand off your unwanted item to a Target team member.
Target Curbside Starbucks
You can now add a Starbucks order to your pickup order at Target. To add your favorite Starbucks drink to your Target pickup order, place your Target Drive Up order as normal. You’ll receive a prompt to add a Starbucks order when you indicate (via the Target app) that you’re on the way. Make your drink selection, hit “add for Drive Up,” and your drink will be ready when you arrive.

Do You Get the Same Discounts Using Target Curbside Pickup?
Eligible discounts or promotions will still apply when you check out on the app. Target Circle offers may be redeemed on orders placed using Drive Up or Order Pickup. Target Circle members also get special offers, usually a percentage-off discount when buying certain items. You’ll see these offers as you shop. Save the offer you want, and it will automatically apply to your order when you check out.
Is There a Minimum Order for Target Curbside Pickup?
No. In fact, you may enjoy this free service and make it part of your shopping routine, especially when you have to pick up one or two last-minute ingredients or items. Rather than going into the store, dealing with crowds as you add items to your shopping basket and wait in line, shopping with the app and using curbside pickup can save you time and streamline your shopping experience.
Can Someone Else Pick up Your Target Curbside Pickup Order?
If you can’t pick up the order you placed, no worries. When you add items to your cart, place the order, and check out within the app, select “edit” next to the pickup person.
You’ll be taken to another screen, where you can manually enter the pickup person during Target curbside pickup hours or select from your saved list of shopping partners. Select the check box next to the shopping partner who will pick up your order, and hit save to continue.
After you check out, your shopping partner will receive a notification indicating that they have an order they will pick up for you. They will also receive an email when the order is ready and when they open the Target app. Upon pickup, they will need to show a valid photo ID.
Once you’ve added the shopping partner to that order, you won’t be able to remove them after the order has been placed.
Can You Use Coupons With Target Curbside Pickup?
Yes, but not all of them. Manufacturer coupons and paper coupons that aren’t added to your order before you place it can’t be used. But any online Target coupons, Target promo codes and (our favorite) Target Circle offers can (and should!) be applied to your Target Drive Up order.
