The umbrella tree is a whole new take on Christmas trees

Christmas, in many households, is a holiday of tradition. Dinners and breakfasts are the same each year. The same songs and films are enjoyed. And the tree is always generally the same. U.K. retailer Argos, though, is offering an alternative for people who want to shake the holidays up—and it’s definitely turning heads.

The chain’s Umbrella Tree is an eight-foot Tannenbaum that foregoes the traditional triangle shape and instead looks more like a Festivus pole with a spruce tip toupee.

The majority of the center support pole is largely empty, except for a few fake needles running to the anchor. At the top is a canopy of sorts, with a heavy concentration of over 800 tree tips. That allows owners to decorate the tree with hanging ornaments.

The tree is currently selling for £157.50, which is about $200 in U.S. dollars.

The unique look of the tree has, unsurprisingly, brought out the funny people on the Internet, which has meant Argos has had to goal keep the questions on the product’s page. Among the now-removed questions people asked were “Where is the rest of it? You are joking, right?” and “Just why?”

The tree is made by a company called Premier Decorations, which has a unique view on what a Christmas tree should be. While there are any number of artificial tree manufacturers who lean into the traditional shape, this company chooses to go the other way.

Other Premier Decorations offerings include a 7-foot Upside Down Christmas Tree (which is exactly what you’d expect) and a 6-foot tall tree that’s in the shape of a Crescent Moon.
