PSA: This Is How To Find Legit Deals During Amazon Prime Day

Amazon Prime Day is on the horizon — July 16 and 17. While the countdown has officially started for this truly spectacular online shopping extravaganza, some deals really are too good to be true. Amazon itself offers solid Prime Day deals on its own laundry list of products, but other Amazon sellers have carte blanche over prices for their merchandise.

That’s not to say an Amazon seller is trying to pull the wool over your eyes, but understanding the ebb and flow of prices on specific merchandise is a must prior to shelling out your hard-earned cash. However, advertising a product to be a better deal than, in actuality, it is — is a tactic employed by Amazon sellers — and other retailers.

These are a few tips to get the most out of this year’s Prime Day — and separate the really great deals from the not-as-good ones as they pop up. Plus, remember, you do need to be a Prime member to shop Prime Day deals. So if you’re one of the few non-Prime members left on earth and decide to sign up, you can try it free for 30 days. Learn more and sign up.

1. Save Your Favorite Products Before Prime Day

One way to make sure you get everything you’ve had your eye on and monitor any price changes is to add your favorites to your cart. While not all Prime Deals are released until the day of, there are tons of deals available early.

If you’ve had your eye on a certain something, add it to your cart. This way, when Prime Day rolls around, you’ll be two steps ahead of other shoppers and can head straight to checkout as soon as the price falls.

2. Ask Alexa To Notify You of Upcoming Deals

After you’ve added your favorite merch to your Amazon Cart, Wish List or Saved For Later lists, Alexa can notify you up to 24 hours before an item you’ve saved is live. And Alexa is intelligent enough to actually buy them for you (if you ask her to), making your worries about whether you’ll be quick enough to catch a deal virtually disappear.

3. Find Out an Item’s Price History

Price trackers are an easy way to find out just how good of a deal you’re getting. That’s especially true for higher-priced items. Add an Amazon price-tracking browser extension like Camelcamelcamel or Keepa, and you can keep track of those most coveted products, as well as receive price drop alerts, so you never miss a deal — all without doing any of the work. Both extensions are free.

For example, this Insignia 42-inch TV is currently available at its lowest price of $129.99 compared to its past price of $269.99 in April. And then, you can see how and when the price has fluctuated since September 2022, when it was first introduced. That’s not to say the TV’s price won’t drop below its Lightning Deal price later, but you have an idea of how good or bad of a deal you’re getting.

4. Look for Amazon Prime-Exclusive Coupons

Along with the dozens of perks that come with a Prime membership, getting Amazon coupons is up there with the best of them. Amazon coupons offer a range of discounts across multiple categories, including fashion, home, electronics, sports and outdoors, beauty and groceries. Make sure to check those out around Prime Day to find deeper discounts on your purchase.

5. Get Amazon Promos Before Prime Day

Every year, Amazon comes up with lucrative ways to encourage customers to shop early. In the past, Amazon customers could shop one of the many small businesses before Prime Day to receive a $10 credit on a purchase made during Prime Day.

Here are the ways to find pre-Prime Day deals in 2024:

6. Enable Amazon’s 1-Click for Your Orders

Many shoppers wait for Prime Day to roll around to make their major purchases. And nothing feels worse than missing out on the one thing you really wanted because you didn’t check out fast enough. That problem is solved when you enable 1-Click. Instead of adding an item to your cart and then migrating over to check out, 1-Click lets you purchase an item directly from its page. You can find 1-Click under your account’s payment settings and enable it from there.

Note: You must enable the 1-Click option for every device you shop on Amazon from.

7. Look for Amazon Lightning Deals

You have to be quick to claim one of Amazon’s Lightning Deals because there are a limited number of products offered with these big discounts. As the name suggests, Lightning Deals last only for a relatively short period of time and are limited to one per customer. During Prime Day, these deals are still running rampant, spanning multiple categories and are exclusive to Prime Members during these days.

Once you claim your deal and it’s added to your shopping cart, you’ll have 15 minutes to complete your order before the offer expires and it returns to its everyday Amazon price.

8. Watch Influencers on Amazon Live

Not only are the shopping videos fun to watch, but Amazon Live is filled with Prime Day deals, too. You get to watch product demonstrations from influencers and celebs and then buy the product for a Prime Day discount. These deals tend to go relatively quickly, so you have to be fast if you really like something. And remember, you can return the item if you change your mind within Amazon’s return window.
