How Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Is One Step Closer to Dropping Her Dad’s Last Name

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, is one step closer to dropping her father’s surname from her own hyphenated surname.

According to ABC News, Shiloh published a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times for the past few weeks. The legal notice makes her intention crystal clear, and it’s to change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. The outlet reports that Shiloh’s notice has been published weekly since June 17.

As for why Shiloh has published the legal notice weekly, a source close to the family tells ET, “publication of the legal notice of a name change is required by California law, and it’s the standard language, meaning it’s legally required. She didn’t take out an ad announcing it.”

Shiloh first submitted the paperwork requesting the legal name change on May 27, the day she celebrated her milestone 18th birthday. Brad and Angelina share three biological children — including Shiloh and 15-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox — as well as three adopted children, sons Maddox, 22, and Pax, 20, and daughter Zahara, 19.

Zahara was first to drop “Pitt” from her last name. She introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” during an introduction ceremony event after joining the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Vivienne followed suit more recently. She and her famous mother co-produced the Broadway production of The Outsiders, on which Vivienne was credited as “Vivienne Jolie.” The mother-daughter duo won a Tony Award for their work on The Outsiders.

A source later told ET that Shiloh “hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself.”

As for Brad’s reaction to Shiloh’s attempt to drop his last name, a source told ET last month that “Brad has always loved being a father and loves his children.”

“This situation is upsetting to him,” the source added, “and he recognizes that things have been difficult for him and the whole family.”

The name change attempt comes amid Brad and Angelina’s long and contentious legal battle over the French vineyard Château Miraval.
