Like most retailers, Macy’s is hoping you’ll download its app to your phone. This encourages your loyalty as a customer and it makes you more likely to buy something.
But does downloading the app help you? Honestly, yes –– because Macy’s offers app users lots of perks and money-saving incentives. If you’re a regular Macy’s shopper, using the app wisely can actually help you spend less. You can download the app for free from the App Store (for iPhones) and from the Google Play Store (for Android phones). Once you do, there are several ways to save. Read on for our top six tips:
Sale prices at Macy’s are constantly being updated. To make sure you’re seeing the lowest price on that scoop neck sleeveless tank you’ve spotted, use your phone app to do a price check. Here’s how:
Not only will the app tell you all the available sizes and colors in stock, but it will tell you if the shirt’s been further reduced in price. It will also let you know if there are any other offers available. Did the app show a lower price? Your store associate will charge you that!
The app is also a one-stop source of information on all sales and deals happening at Macy’s. On the homescreen, scroll down to the bottom, where it says “offers.” Click on “current deals and promotions,” and you’ll see all the deals on specific brands and app-exclusive sales.
If you haven’t already, join the free loyalty club, the Macy’s Star Rewards program. You receive points for dollars spent, and those points add up to Star Money (which is essentially store credit). You earn $10 for every 1,000 points earned, as well as other special offers and freebies.
The downside of the Macy’s Star Rewards program is that once the accumulated points are converted into Star Money, you have just 30 days to spend it. The app can help you make sure you don’t lose this free money. It shows you how many points you’ve accumulated, whether there are Star Rewards in your account and when those Star Rewards will expire.
The app will also alert you to opportunities to earn extra points on the product detail page. And you’ll get push notifications when Macy’s is having one of its Star Money Bonus Days (special times when you’re awarded more bonus points than usual).
Who wants to pay the original price on an item that’s bound to go on sale? If you have time to wait to buy that pricey perfume or pair of jeans, add it to your Favorites list on the app. Macy’s will send you an email when it goes on sale.
Here’s how to do it:
It happens to the best of us: You buy a pair of cute shoes on Monday only to discover that they’re selling for $20 less on Thursday. It’s maddening! But did you know that Macy’s will pay you back the difference you paid—as long as you spot the price drop within 10 days?
Here’s where the Macy’s app is really helpful. During the 10 days after buying something, check the app’s purchases and returns menu. It will let you know if the price went down—and if it did, you can contact Macy’s by phone or visit macys.com to get a price adjustment.
If you have a Macy’s credit card, the store wants to make it as easy as possible for you to use it. No need to dig through your wallet and hand the physical card to the Sales Associate! Just hold up your phone, and they can scan it right from your app. “And you’ll always find the best savings and offers, including Star Passes and Star Money with just one scan,” says Alex Manzanares, the retailer’s director of Digital Product Management.
Never miss a deal with the app. In the settings menu, you can turn on various notifications about app-exclusive sales and other special offers. It will also keep you informed on the status of your orders. Here’s how to set it up:
The Macy’s app is a great digital tool for people who love Macy’s. If you’re a Macy’s credit card holder, a Star Rewards Program member or a regular Macy’s shopper, this app is probably worth downloading.
Truth be told, though, it’s not for everyone. If you’re someone who occasionally browses in Macy’s on your way to the mall parking lot, the app would be less helpful. Apps do take up storage space on your phone, so don’t bother if you don’t plan to shop regularly. In other words, consider whether you have room for another retailer amidst all the true crime podcasts and videos of your dog. Then decide what’s best for you!
Remember, you can also get 12% cash back on your Macy’s purchases sitewide.
