The One Chicago franchise is returning in full force with Chicago PD Season 12!
We’ll face some serious changes, namely in the form of casting shakeups.
But for the most part, we can anticipate much of the same thing as Voight heads the Intelligence Unit through some of Chicago’s most harrowing major cases.
We’ve compiled all the information you need to know about Chicago PD Season 12, including the release date.

We will update you as news trickles in, so make sure you take note.
As we’ve established, NBC has renewed Chicago PD (along with the other One Chicago franchise series).
In March, NBC announced that the entire Dick Wolf franchise got the green light to continue with its stories.
And with that, Chicago PD will be entering its twelfth season.
Due to the dual strikes, Chicago PD Season 11 started late, which resulted in a shortened season.
Much of the season focused on Voight and others determined to track down a sadistic serial killer who killed individuals who were close to one another and glued their eyes open.

It was a season-long mystery that only picked up steam when Voight grew close to one of the victims, Noah, only to have him fall victim to the serial killer again, permanently.
By the season finale, Matson drugs and kidnaps Voight, leaving Hailey and the others to track him down.
Hailey enlists the help of the unusual and polarizing new character, Jo Petrovic, to track down Voight, resulting in a pulse-pounding finale that even delivers a blast from the past in the form of Olinsky via Voight’s drugged state.
Hailey and Voight cemented their special father/daughter bond as they fought for their lives against Matson.
By the end, it’s something that led to Tracy Spiridakos‘ exit from the series after seven seasons as Hailey sought out a fresh start in a different avenue of law enforcement left up in the air.
Now that the network has officially released the NBC Fall lineup, we know when the series will return with new episodes.
We don’t have to wait very long.

Chicago PD will air on Wednesday, September 25 at 10/9c on NBC.
We can expect more of the same out of the series.
Chicago PD has fallen into the habit of producing many character-centric episodes a season.
In that case, we’ll likely see the return to that format, with each primary character remaining at the center of two to three episodes.
The series has also taken to having long-running arcs that consume the season, so we’ll probably see at least one case lasting for multiple episodes.
With Hailey Upton gone, the Intelligence Unit is down a member and needs a detective on the squad.
It wouldn’t be surprising if we saw a replacement come into play or some guest-starring roles for someone who will work alongside the team.
Many viewers are also holding out for one or more of the existing members of the squad to make detective, so that may come into play.
It’ll also be interesting to see how some personal developments will come into play.
We’re curious to see if Voight will grow closer or more distant from those around him after the death of Noah and the departure of Hailey so soon after Halstead’s exit.

And with the Burzek engagement, we’ll hopefully see some wedding plan or even the wedding at some point in the season.
Fortunately, we can kiss the disappointment over the ultra-short TV season behind us.
We don’t have any official confirmation yet, but we’ll most likely have 22 episodes, as that’s been the standard number during recent seasons, not affected by other circumstances.
The cast is intact, and we can expect the return of the remainder of our big players.
There has yet to be any word on whether Spiridakos will reappear at any point in the upcoming season.
As far as we know, she signed off on the finale and has no plans to guest-star in the upcoming season.
We also don’t know if Jesse Lee Soffer will appear in Chicago PD Season 12.

While he hasn’t reprised his role since his departure, he has returned behind the scenes to direct in the past two seasons.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if he attempts to do that again in the upcoming season.
However, he will star on FBI: International after taking on a series regular role.
The CBS series primarily films in Europe; Soffer opting to direct during the season may be a long shot.
Fortunately, yes!
In an exciting plot development, the series will be reintroducing patrol officers, and hopefully, it’ll lead to more Trudy Platt time in the season.
Warrior Nun and New Amsterdam’s Toya Turner has joined the cast in a recurring role as Patrol Officer Kiana Cook.
This will complete Turner’s foray into appearing in the One Chicago trifecta, as she’s also had guest-starring roles in Chicago Fire and Chicago Med.
Kiana Cook is described as a woman who lives for the adrenaline of the job and is cool, calm, and collected in the face of chaos.
Oh, but that’s not all!
We’re particularly excited to hear that Shawn Hatosy of Southland and Animal Kingdom will also recur in Chicago PD Season 12.
The acclaimed Hatosy will be portraying the new chief, Charlie Reid.
Hatosy will make his debut in the premiere, and Reid reportedly has a very strong dynamic with Voight.
He will see a lot of himself in Voight and has a similar outlook on how to approach the job, which could mean some very interesting interactions between the two characters as well as him with the rest of the Intelligence Unit.
It’s a dynamic that will play out throughout the season, so we can hopefully expect to see a great deal of Hatosy, who will also be recurring in FOX’s Rescue Hi-Surf and The Pitt.
There’s a teaser trailer for One Chicago, and it introduces some new characters in the franchise and gives us glimpses and voiceovers by some of our favorite characters.
