Bethenny Frankel, former star of The Real Housewives of New York City, recently shared her experience of getting ready for her first date since her breakup from ex-fiancé Paul Bernon, only to end up canceling at the last minute.
Frankel, 53, posted a TikTok video last week showing off her flirty outfit and excitement for the night out in the Hamptons, but “things took a turn.”
In the video, Frankel twirled around in a colorful pink dress by Hemant & Nandita, coordinating Vince Camuto heels and a blush Dior saddle bag. “Outfit for the date. Let’s rip the Band-Aid right off,” she said. She also flaunted her full face of makeup, asking her fans, “Did the glam. What do you think? It’s all right, right? Listen, gotta come in hot. Have a good night.”
However, the night didn’t go as planned. The video then cut to Frankel in her car, where she abruptly announced, “Abort! Abort! Not going on the date. Will explain later.”
Later, she posted another TikTok to explain her decision to back out. “So I got dressed up to go out on a date with someone, and it was a last-minute thing, so that’s fine,” she began. Frankel shared that the man had mentioned meeting a friend for a drink, and she thought he expected her to join them because she knew the friend.
“The guy’s not my type,” Frankel admitted. She also shared that she ran into her daughter, Bryn, who encouraged her to go on the date. But Frankel decided against it, telling Bryn, “I don’t want to waste time. I’d rather be home with you. I don’t want to go.”
Frankel also revealed that Bryn went into the restaurant to spy on the man and confirm her feelings. “‘Cause I don’t think this person is my type, for many different reasons,” Frankel explained.
Instead of wasting her outfit, Frankel decided to go to Rocco DiSpirito’s new restaurant, declaring, “Gotta be adventurous. It’s my adventure era.”
In a follow-up TikTok, Frankel shared why she initially agreed to the date and why she changed her mind. She mentioned that the man was set up by a very credible person, describing him as “age-appropriate, geographically desirable, handsome, successful” with “great text banter” and “good phone conversation.” However, she noticed a “pink flag” when he suggested she pick him up on the way to their date.
“I could also hang-glide off the Empire State Building, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon,” she joked. “Like, you can meet me there or you can pick me up, but I’m not picking you up. I don’t like how it’s going to make me feel. That’s not happening.”
Frankel did an “FBI deep dive” into the man and discovered that his ex supported him financially, making her uncomfortable. “It just freaked me out,” she said. “We don’t want no scrubs, OK? And supporting a man? Yeah, been there, done that.”
After six years together, news of Frankel and Bernon’s breakup emerged in May. Bernon also moved on, dating Aurora Culpo for a few months before their recent split. Frankel was previously married to Bryn’s father, Jason Hoppy, from 2010 to 2021.
